Call us a phenomenon\, call us one of the most well-attended pop-culture conventions in the country\, and call us the most fan fun you can have in five days:\nDragon Con is where you want to be on Labor Day Weekend. \nBefore Dragon Con\, conventions were limited to specific genres like gaming\, literature\, or comic books. However\, in 1987\, Dragon Con’s founders\, fans of science fiction\, gaming\, and comics\, combined these interests in a single convention. Despite initial doubts\, the event quickly gained popularity\, doubling attendance to 2\,400 by 1989 and reaching 4\,800 in 1990. Dragon Con’s success was propelled by hosting Origins Game Fair ’90 and introducing the Atlanta Comics Expo\, showcasing a diverse range of interests. The convention aimed to offer something for everyone\, and its unique approach revolutionized the convention scene.

DESCRIPTION:“Physiology and Space Exploration”\nGuest Speaker: Phyllis Friello\, Johnson Space Center \nJoin us on August 15th for “Physiology and Space Exploration” with Phyllis Friello\, Johnson Space Center. \nHumans have been living and working in space aboard the International Space Station for almost 25 years. Although this orbiting laboratory has provided us with a wealth of information on the effects of the space environment on the human body\, there are many remaining questions as we venture beyond low Earth orbit. This presentation will provide an overview of the primary risks of expedition class exploration to human physiology and the work underway to meet these challenges. There will be a Q&A after the talk. \nPhyllis Friello is currently the Project manager for the Exploration Medical Integrated Product Team at Johnson Space Center. Prior to her current position\, she was the manager of Science and Research at Space Center Houston\, overseeing the on-site research and ISS science payloads of the Applied Research Collaborative. \nThe Sol Speaker Series features guest presenters who will cover a wide range of inspiring and informative topics on space\, astronomy\, astrophotography\, the Artemis mission\, stargazing\, and tons more! These events are presented via Zoom beginning at 7 pm EST/EDT and includes a 45-minute talk followed by a Q and A session. DESCRIPTION:The STARFLEET International Conference is the organization’s largest annual event and in-person business meeting where members of STARFLEET: The International Star Trek Fan Association\, Inc. gather together to participate in meetings\, information sessions/panels\, a formal banquet\, an awards ceremony\, meet the organization’s leadership\, enjoy various forms of entertainment\, as well as other events. \nThe International Conference is also the annual gathering of some of the organization’s affiliate groups such as the STARFLEET Marine Corps (SFMC) who host a muster for all Marines in the Fleet with its own events\, banquet\, and awards ceremony.
